we had a hard time finding a good breakfast spot here. does anyone know of a good breakfast place in mount vernon, ny? maybe we just didn't look hard enough, and anyway, we usually got up too late for breakfast anyway. |

my friends swore it was the best jamaican food in the world, so we went to a place called Ripe. i figured it would be your typical jerk this and jerk that. i was totally wrong. first of all, i was wrong about truly ever having "jerk" food before i went to this place. i had a gigantic ribeye steak that had been marinaded in Ripe's secret recipe for jerk sauce. it was beyond amazing. everything was delicious and the vibe is very islandy. a little hard to find i think if you don't go with someone who knows the place. i don't think they even had a sign on the door and it looked like a house, not a restaurant. for all i know, it WAS someone's house. but it was outstanding food nonetheless. |

the bayou - crazy good cajun food i didn't expect so far north. they also had live music - really good and not overly loud blues band. just SOME of the things i remember from the menu: bbq alligator (!), mac & cheese (the best i've ever had) crab cakes, omg...too much too list. i had a skirt steak po boy which i had never seen anywhere before. it was amazing. definitely give this place a try if you like cajun food. |

i'm the wrong person to ask about mornings in mount vernon. i usually don't get up till noon unless i'm on vacation. then i sleep till 1. |

Afternoon |
took a long walk around downtown. it's really cool...all the buildings look hundreds of years old. it almost feels like you're in a movie or something. someone in one of the stores said they were talking about revitalizing/modernizing the buildings but i hope they don't. it was very charming. |

Evening |
we took the train to manhattan. it was very quick. went to about a dozen bars and took the train back. no need for a cab or driving drunk! |

Late Night |
we got back to mount vernon about 3 am and we didn't see much of anything open. anybody know of any late night clubs in mount vernon, ny? |
